Since 2002, over 24,000 people have been certified, making it a highly sought-after area with a relatively small supply of certified individuals. In addition, the exams are conducted only three times a year, which builds up a lot of pressure on the exam-takers and hence the need for thorough preparation. It also requires at least five years of experience in IS, with at least three of those as a security manager. The cert demands hard work and detailed planning.

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) – Average Mean Salary- $110,603

CISSP provides vendor-neutral security expertise. It comprises of an exam based around ten different areas in computer security, including risk analysis, cloud computing, security when developing applications, mobile, cryptography, physical security, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, and legal and compliance issues. At least five years of full-time experience in at least two of the ten areas tested is required. However, in case you lack the required work experience, you may opt for Associate of (ISC) 2 designation while working toward the full certification. Additionally, you have to earn Continuous Professional Education (CPE) credits every year to remain certified. There are nearly 96,000 CISSPs worldwide, with approximately two-thirds of them in the United States.

Did you know it is the fourth highest paying and the first that is not security related?  There are over 630,000 PMPs worldwide. The exam tests five areas relating to the lifecycle of a project: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. You are expected to complete 35 hours of PMP-related training along with 7,500 hours of project management experience (If you have less than a bachelor’s degree) or 4,500 hours of project management experience with a bachelor’s or higher degree.  It requires careful planning and effort.

  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) — Average Mean Salary-$106,181

Best suited for IS auditors and so far over 106,000 people are certified since its inception. CISA certification requires at least five years of experience in IS auditing, control, or security in addition to passing an exam that is only offered three times per year. Ideal for people with job responsibilities that includes:  auditing, monitoring, controlling, and/or assessing IT and/or business systems. IT Certification Can Re-define Your Career Path.

IT certifiIT Certificationcation is a swift and widely recognized benchmark mapped to a specific skill set based on standardized testing. A certification validates your passion, expertise and technical knowledge on a specific platform. So, take charge of your career and design your growth path with the right certification.

Reasons To Gain IT Certification:

Here is why IT certification offers you a differential advantage over your peers:

Getting Hired: Jobs in IT sector are  very competitive. When two otherwise equal candidates are vying for the same position, the one who has a certification will have the edge over the other without the one.

Promotions: Move up the corporate ladder or get the deserved and desired raise with right certifications.  A certified Project Management Professional (PMP®) has the earning potential of  $109,405. Similarly, a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Routing and Switching professional can earn up to $97,038. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) can make up to $96,198. The best part about this is, the choice lies in your hands.

Professional Credibility: Earning a certification, especially a series of certifications from the same vendor, will provide immediate professional credibility. Who is going to question a Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE), a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or a Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA)? Having earned one (or more) of these certifications demonstrates your dedication and motivation for professional development.

Keeps you ahead in the dynamic IT world: Earning a certification on a recently released operating system, platform or application will demonstrate that you have achieved what a few have done up to that point: become certified on a new product. Passing an exam for a recently released certification is challenging due to the lack of study material and advice available from other certified individuals. Earning an IT certification on a new product can make you the subject matter expert in your organization – putting you in a positive light for your early efforts.

Early planning is the key here. Study about the latest certification requirement for your job role and then chalk out your study plan. A comprehensive course along with the simulation technique also known as a virtual lab, will help you gain hands-on expertise on the subject and will prepare you well to qualify the required certification. So, start now to craft your growth trajectory.
